Fast Car: a girl's road to a disaster

I've always found the song Fast Car poignant. (See previous two postings).

I know it is about a possibly black girl's life careening down the highway to a failed life. I find the story about poor choices, about dysfunctional families and failed relationships of a previous generation trailing the next SO, so relevant. The song is not sung with a tremendous amount of pain. There is even a sense of a shift of gears slow at first then rising to the the refrain "driving driving...". There is a sense of a loss of control and a repetition of another failed life, of disappointment at loved ones not being there. The deja vu? She is going through the same pain and and rejection that her father went through. The FAST CAR is just a metaphor for the wrong choice, the choice of greed, materialism and the mindless draw of wealth. His mother fell for it and she is blocking out her pain on the rides. It appears she could be living on the edge here. On the run? Where are they heading? How did he get the car?

There is a good Royston Tan movie here, the Zhonghuarian those of you who hail from his art niche alma mater should appreciate.
